As the baby boomer generation grows older, a unresolved problem is starting to arise among the elderly of our country. The last thing someone needs to experience in their final years is abuse, but it is apparent that nursing homes are no longer a safe place to live anymore.

Nursing home abuse is a serious problem and it really lies within the corporations that run these nursing homes. A recent congressional report stated that over 1600 nursing homes, or 1/3 of the total in the United States, have been cited for abuse. All the executives really care about is the bottom line and how much profit they can squeeze out each quarter to make the shareholders happy. In doing this and cutting costs, residents are not getting the appropriate medicines and basic supplies that are needed for their care. That is where the problem is.

Also, focusing just on their profits is killing the quality of care as well. The company is just looking to hire as much cheap labor as possible to keep their profit up and skim on the labor that they hire. Most of the care takers that a resident will see do not have any formal education in taking care of someone. This in turn leads to neglect, not necessarily on purpose, but because they simply do not know what they are doing.

Finally, nursing homes are getting crowded and the help is also spread thin. This is again not a direct problem on the help but they will often neglect the residents simply because they do not have time.

If you feel that you know someone who may be in danger or is neglected or is just a victim of abuse, you need to contact a lawyer and do something about this today. There is currently a class action lawsuit for these type of cases, so click here to get involved in it today and save your loved one.

Thanks for sharing this. It’s really sad to here such things and makes me never want to send my parents to a nursing home.
